History

Zu Cafe is more than a cafe it is a place for community to connect and truly eat well. Founded by Martin Thomas and Samira Harris, this is the next evolution of the Zu community venue.

Zuvuya started 15 years ago as a quirky bar in festivals selling healthy snacks and alchemical drinks!

Zu Studios was launched in 2008 in a 9,000 sq ft 100 year old warehouse in Lewes which was converted into 16 art studios, a cinema, two dance floors, a library, chill out room. Zu Studios ran many events and parties for over 8 years and many people moved to Lewes to be part of the artistic co-created movement with a focus on evolution in all forms through education, inspiration and celebration. We grew food in a vertical hanging garden, had bee hives and tried to make everything as sustainable and ecological as possible.

When Zu Studios closed in 2016, Zu went back to it's roots with Zutopia, an events organisation making exceptional party spaces in festivals and at private events. However many people especially in Lewes have missed a place for the community to meet. So when the iconic bus station in Lewes became available, Martin invited Samira to start a new space which would offer a space of wellbeing that nourishes the body and soul with exceptional food and friendly staff welcoming. The Zu Community got behind the project and one step at a time we are evolving this new space to reach it's full potential.
